A quick and easy way to restore repeating alarms to Pocket PC 2002
Microsoft for some unknown reason felt that repeating
alarm sounds were not really needed and removed them from Pocket PC 2002.
We all know differently. The sound files downloadable from this page are a quick and easy way to
add back that functionality. They are provided
FREE as a service to
the Pocket PC Community.
The sound files on this page started out as the
standard alarm sounds provided with Pocket PC 2002, Pocket PC 2000 or
Palm-Sized PC. Each sound was then processed to maximize it's volume
and replicated multiple times to produce a repeating alarm sound.
Silence was added between each repetition for a pleasing effect.
These files should work on most Pocket PC 2000 and 2002 devices, but some
devices may use different encodings for WAV files and therefore it is left
to the user to determine compatibility.
One of the drawbacks of repeating sounds in this
fashion is that the resulting sound file is much larger than the original.
If you are looking for a more fully functional solution with a smaller
footprint you should
consider SuperAlert from
Whittaker Moore Associates Limited.
Alarm Sound File Support
PocketConcepts provides these alarm
sound files as is, with no warranty. Use them at your own risk. We
will answer basic questions on the installation and usage of the files,
but that is all.
Download and Installation
Instructions
- Choose the files you wish to
download. Each section ends with a ZIP file containing all the
files in that section or you can choose individual files.
- Download the files you have
chosen. For the individual WAV files, you may need to use your
browser's method of saving a target file. For Internet Explorer,
this would be right clicking on the hyperlink and choosing Save Target
as...
- Once you have downloaded the
files, you need to install them on your device. This can be
accomplished using ActiveSync or other means to copy the files to your
device.
- Copy the files you wish to use to
the Windows folder of your device. Using ActiveSync you would
choose the Explore option to open up a window. By default this
will display the contents of the My Documents folder. Click on the
Icon named My Pocket PC and then click on the Windows folder. This
is where you need to copy the files.
- Once the files are installed in
the Windows folder, you can use them just like you would use any of the
original alarm sounds. Enjoy.
